Maharashtra Rain Alert: Vidarbha, Marathwada May Receive Rain from October 27–29
Maharashtra may receive rain between October 27 and 29 as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a cyclone. Vidarbha and Marathwada may be affected as the IMD issues a warning for fishermen.
Low-Pressure Area Over Bay of Bengal May Intensify
A low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and is expected to move west-northwestwards. The system could intensify over the next two days, raising the possibility of its transformation into a cyclone. The potential cyclone is reportedly expected to be named ‘Arnab’.
Andhra Pradesh Coast Could Be Affected
The potential cyclone is likely to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, with its influence possibly extending across the region between north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. If the system makes landfall and subsequently moves towards Madhya Pradesh, conditions could become favourable for rainfall in Maharashtra as well.
Vidarbha and Marathwada May Receive Rain
Between October 27 and 29, Vidarbha and Marathwada could experience cloudy weather accompanied by rain showers. The rainfall may provide some relief to farmers preparing for sowing operations during the rabi season. However, the actual amount of rainfall and the areas that receive it will depend on the cyclone’s trajectory, intensity and subsequent weather conditions.
According to the possibility highlighted by weather expert Mayuresh Prabhune, the movement of the potential cyclone and its impact on Maharashtra will need to be monitored closely. Residents and farmers have been advised to follow official weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department.
IMD Advises Fishermen to Avoid the Sea
As a precautionary measure, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from Friday evening until the following Wednesday.
The IMD stated, “Fishermen are advised not to venture into the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast areas from the evening of October 23 to October 25, and into the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwest areas from October 26 to October 28.”
The advisory has also prompted instructions to the fisheries department and the administrations of fishing harbours to alert fishermen and monitor subsequent marine warnings issued by the weather department.
The possibility of rain in Maharashtra will depend on the evolving weather system over the Bay of Bengal. The next few days will be important in determining the extent of rainfall in Vidarbha and Marathwada, while fishermen have been advised to follow the IMD’s marine warnings and avoid the specified sea areas during the alert period.
